March For Our Lives Rally Thousands gathered in downtown Washington, D.C. for the “March for Our Lives” rally. An estimated 800 similar marches happened around the world. The event was organized in response to the February 14, 2018, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, as well as other school shootings since the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in Colorado. Several Marjory Stoneman Douglas students addressed the rally, and they were joined by other students from around the country affected by gun violence. In their speeches they called for legislation to help end gun violence. Several artists performed at the event including Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Ben Platt.
